If you are a DMO or a PR rep for a hotel, attraction or gear company, I’d love to work with you! Please read these guidelines before sending me a pitch.
The best way to know what to pitch me is by subscribing to my free media newsletter to see what content I’m in need of. I also include links to my recently published articles, so you can see if your content was included.
Tips for Working With Me
What I Do Cover:
Topics: Wellness, Adventure, Luxury, Sustainability, Winter Sports.
What I Don’t Cover:
Destinations I do not typically cover include: Texas, Florida, Jamaica, Dominican Republic.
Topics I do not typically cover: Bachelorette parties, honeymoons, weddings, food and wine, wine tasting, family travel, budget travel, multigenerational travel, historic hotels (ask my about my ghost experience!), time-sensitive topics like festivals, travel deals, or one-time exhibitions/shows.
I prefer to give priority to businesses that have sustainability initiatives currently in place. Please note that in your pitches.
Who I Pitch:
Here are the publications I’ve written for. I will pitch to whichever ones I think the story angle will be the best fit for. It is a big help if you can tell me which publications have not covered what you’re pitching me.
Outlets currently not accepting pitches (I will keep this list updated):
- U.S. News & World Report (I am given weekly assignments)
- Matador Network
- Marriott Bonvoy Traveler
- Virtuoso Inspiration
- Modern Luxury magazines
- Sunset magazine
- Roadtrippers
- Orbitz, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets
Press Trips:
I typically book my press trips about three months in advance.
I do NOT typically attend press trips in June, July, December.
When accepting a press trip, I will typically send a “soft pitch” to my editors to gauge interest and try to secure an assignment beforehand. However, it can be tricky to pitch something I haven’t yet experienced and the angle of the story could change while on the trip. I will always pitch after I get back, but for full disclosure editorial coverage is not guaranteed. I will work hard to find angles that will resonate with my editors and readers, and will pitch the destination/hotel for up to one year after my visit. I look at this as a long-term relationship that could result in multiple articles over a 12-month period.
For transparency, if I attend a comped press trip (either group or individual), I cannot guarantee a positive review of the resorts, restaurants, or activities, since that would go against journalism ethics. My review will be based solely on my personal experience while visiting the destination.
I am a vegetarian and I don’t drink alcohol – I gave up alcohol when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. I do, however, love a good mocktail! So, I’m not always the best journalist to cover food and wine. I do cover wine country spas and accommodation though.
Social Media:
For press trips and brands I partner with, I will do social media stories, posts, and reels on my @FamilyTravelChannel Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, and Pinterest. Please let me know any tags/mentions and hashtags you’d like me to use for each platform. Side note: I’m working on rebranding soon since I no longer cover family travel.
Good to Know:
If a press release does not state the city, state, and country (other than U.S.), of a destination or hotel, in the first paragraph, I will not continue reading it.
