The benefits of boxing

Bobby Chavez

Boxing has gone from the ring to the gym and all ages and fitness levels are enjoying the high intensity training that the sport provides. At Bobby’s Boxing & Fitness in Laguna Canyon, workouts can include punching bags, weight training, and cardio. Owner and trainer Bobby Chavez fell in love with the sport as a teenager and is psyched to help others learn the techniques involved in boxing. The sport is not just for “tough guys.”

He trains teenagers, stay-at-home moms and corporate executives, all of whom benefit from not only working their body, but also their minds – to learn the moves. The facility, which is located at the Laguna Beach Batting Cages, was the result of one of his clients asking him to work with baseball players. The cross training seemed to be beneficial to prevent repetitive use injuries, especially with high school athletes who typically have a rigorous training schedule.

Bobby prefers to blast loud music during his one-on-one or small group workouts, to get his clients pumped. “Before they know it, the workout is over and they feel great,” says Bobby. We sat down with Bobby to get the inside scoop on what it takes to get started  and how clients benefit from adding boxing to their workout routines.
