Beer more nutritious than milk? That’s what animal-rights activists would have you beliieve. In an effort to protect cows from animal cruelty, PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has launched a campaign urging college students to wipe off their milk mustaches and pour a frosty glass of brew.
PETA, which has gained notoriety from superstar supporters including Linda McCartney, Pamela Anderson Lee, and Goldie Hawn, posted a survey on its website, milksucks.com, that compares the nutritional value of suds and milk.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving, was not very pleased to see PETA encouraging beer-drinking, so PETA recently pulled the campaign from college campuses.
To get its point across PETA has posted on its Web site photos of cows locked in spaces so small the animals cannot move, They are covered in feces, with uncomfortably oversized udders, The site states that the cows’ “udders are genetically modified to produce so much extra milk that they sometimes drag on the feces and urine-covered cement.”
States the website: “Cows, like all mammals, make milk to feed their own babies– not humans.”
I don’t know about you but looking at the photos definitely makes me want to stop downing milk. Those poor cows! If giving up milk can save these cows from being tortured, I’m all for giving soy milk a try.
