Have you ever dreamed of taking a trip around the world? Or how about backpacking in Nepal? These types of trips can be very costly and sometimes dangerous. So why not get the thrills from the comfort of your own home.
Reading a good adventure travel book can be almost as exciting as being there in person, but even better because you don’t have to worry about learning a foreign language or catching a disease.
Here are some adventure travel books that I recommend:
- Danger! True Stories of Trouble and Survival by James O’Reilly, Larry Habegger and Sean O’Reilly-
This book is filled with adrenaline junkies that encounter near-death experiences. A bicycle ride across Bulgaria, rescuing a boat in a storm, mountain climbing in Pakistan, and many other gripping tales of people daring to take the road less traveled. - Lonely Planet Unpacked: Travel Disaster Stories by Tony Wheeler and other Lonely Planet Authors-
For those of you who are avid travelers, I’m sure you’ve found that Lonely Planet guidebooks are essential. This is an interesting look at what the writer’s who prepared the travel books experienced along the way. It makes me appreciate the guidebooks even more knowing what it took to get the information to make the book. A good inside look at what it takes to be a travel writer. - Getting There: Journeys of an Accidental Adventurer by Sue Williams-
This Australian author shares her stories of traveling the world on her own. From Africa to South America, she encounters many troubles along the way. An interesting look at how wanderlust can get us into some tricky situations.
Hopefully these books will inspire you to take your own adventurous trip someday.
