Frog Child, a local funk-folk band, will perform at the Save Sunset Beach rally at Campus Center today. The rally is being held to inform students about a proposed North Shore development in Pupukea which will require changes to current land use laws, Jennifer Jackson, rally coordinator said.

Lead singer Buck Giles, said they are playing because their main cause is the environment. Giles said he hopes their music will bring people together in a peaceful way. Giles said that the members of the band have been friends since childhood.

After winning a band contest at Moose McGillycuddy’s they got their first gig at Java Java Cafe. Giles said the band chose the name Frog Child, because the frog is a symbol of peace in some cultures.

“We all live on a big lily pad in the middle of the Pacific Ocean,” Giles said. “You have to be able to adapt to the water. Our music is amphibious and diverse.”

Giles said the band writes all their own music, and they are in the process of recording their first CD, which should be in stores by April.

Frog Child plays regularly at Anna Banana’s and Java Java Cafe. They also perform at benefit concerts.

The member of Frog Child are Buck Giles, lead vocalist and guitar player; John Glaser, vocalist adn drum player; Andrew McClellan, vocalist and bass guitar player; and Gary Wong, percussion (congas) player.
