When most people think of climbing, they have visions of falling to the ground at tremendous speeds. That’s enough to keep most people from trying it. But if you learn how to use your equipment properly and take a few safety measures, climbing can be safe and fun. “Don’t do things over your head,” says Bob Ranoa, an REI climbing expert. “Intuition works the best. Think, act, do things safely.”
Here are some first aid items to carry in your backpack:
- Band-Aids: For cuts and scrapes—a common climbing injury from bumping against the rock.
- Moleskin: To prevent foot blisters.
- Finger tape: For support and protection.
If you feel the need to have more supplies with you, there are plenty of first aid kits (compare prices) you can purchase. But most climbers don’t like having the added weight in their backpacks.
