Hawai’i, also known as the Big Island, is the largest of the eight Hawaiian Islands. You won’t have trouble finding a one-of-a-kind Hawai’i activity that will make lasting memories – the island is full of out-of-this-world natural wonders, no matter what side of the island you’re visiting.
On the Kohala Coast, you’ll see black sand beaches, white sand at ‘Anaeho’omalu Bay(nicknamed “A-Bay”) and the 4-mile Onomea (Pepe’ekeo) scenic drive – the most famous scenic road on the island of Hawai’i. You can also hike to Onomea Bay. Along the Hamakua Coast, you can visit the photo-worthy 442-foot ‘Akaka Falls that flows into a stream-eroded gorge, stop at a lookout to view the lush, Eden-like Pololu Valley or head to Hilo for the Hilo Farmers Market to peruse a variety of Hawaiian foods, produce and crafts. Swim with manta rays or sea turtles along the Kona Coast (wearing reef-safe sunscreen, of course) or take a small-group whale watching tour to see enormous humpback whales in their natural environment.
A trip to the awe-inspiring Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park is a must-do. Here, you’ll find two active volcanoes, Kilauea (where you might be able to witness lava flows) and Mauna Loa – the world’s largest active volcano. You’ll also find petrified lava fields and Nahuku (Thurston Lava Tube).
